Difference between halogen&xenon&LED lamp
The principle of the halogen headlights is the same as that of incandescent lamps. The tungsten wire is heated to incandescent state and emits light. However, the halogen headlights have been upgraded compared to incandescent lamps, which is the addition of halogen elements such as bromine and iodine. The principle of circulation effectively relieves the loss of tungsten wire at high temperatures, and has higher brightness and longer life than incandescent lamps.
The biggest advantage of halogen headlights is that they are cheap and easy to replace. Therefore, they are mostly used in low- and mid-range models. The halogen headlights have a warmer color temperature and better penetration in rain, snow and fog. Therefore, fog lights are basically all Halogen light sources are used, and some models with xenon headlights use halogen light sources for their high beams.
The disadvantage of halogen headlights is that the brightness is not high, and they are often dubbed as "candle lights" by riders. Furthermore, halogen headlights are illuminated by heating, so the energy consumption is high.
Xenon headlights are also called "high-pressure gas discharge lamps". Their bulbs do not have filaments, but are filled with xenon and other inert gases. Through the ballast, the car's 12-volt power supply is instantly boosted to 23000 volts. Xenon gas is ionized and produces a light source between the poles of the power supply. Ballasts have a great influence on xenon headlights. Good ballasts have a fast start-up speed, and they are not afraid of severe cold, and have low pressure and constant light.
The color temperature of xenon headlights is closer to daylight, so the brightness is much higher than halogen headlights, which brings better lighting effects to drivers and improves driving safety, while energy consumption is only two-thirds of the latter. Another is that the working life of xenon headlights is very long, generally up to 3000 hours.
But xenon headlights are not perfect. The high price and high heat are its shortcomings. The most important thing is the high color temperature, which reduces the penetration ability of rain, snow and fog. Therefore, many xenon headlights have only low beams as the xenon light source.
LED is short for "Light Emitting Diode", it can directly convert electricity into light, because of its long life, fast lighting, low energy consumption and other advantages, it is often used as a daytime running light and brake light, with good results .
In recent years, LED headlights have also begun to appear, but currently only belong to the configuration of high-end models, its performance almost surpasses the xenon headlights, that is, higher brightness, lower energy consumption, and longer life.
The disadvantage of LED headlights is that the cost is higher and it is not easy to maintain. Another thing is that the penetration ability in time of rainy day, snow day and fog is not as strong as xenon headlights.
And here is the performance comparison.
Luminance: LED>Xenon lamp>Halogen lamp
Penetrating power: Halogen lamp>Xenon lamp≈LED
Lifespan: LED> Xenon lamp> Halogen lamp
Energy consumption: Halogen lamp>Xenon lamp>LED
Price:LED>Xenon lamp>Halogen lamp
It can be seen that halogen headlights, xenon headlights, and LED headlights have their own advantages, and they are also well composed of low, medium, and high grades.
